Meet Aditi Raval, who left Radio to pursue her passion for Entrepreneurship!

Our first doer this year is an RJ turned entrepreneur. She left the glamorous world of radio to pursue her passion for entrepreneurship. Formally known as RJ Aditi, how Aditi Raval is now all set to launch her own company. How she tackled with all the criticism and depression in life? Aditi Raval talks her heart out in an interview with BuddyBits. Presenting an extract of our conversation with the Doer Aditi Raval.

How does your childhood look like?

I used to be a sports keeda in my school days. I took admission into R.J. Tibrewal Commerce College on the basis of sports. I used to be the captain of volleyball team of my college. Apart from that, I’ve also done a lot of fashion shows and dance shows in college. I’ve choreographed fashion shows, dance, and have also done modeling. I have always been passionate about art.

Also, I have this weird belief of earning everything on my own. I used to help my dad in exchange of pocket money. My dad is into cotton business. When I was in fifth- sixth standard, I used to go with him to our village and help him during my vacations. In exchange of that work, he bought me my first bicycle. Even today, I own a car which is bought by the money I’ve earned.

How did the Radio happen to you?

I was just finished with my B.Com. third year exams and this opportunity came to me. My friend’s mom told me that Divya Bhaskar is hunting for new RJs for their brand new radio channel. So I thought to give it a try. I went to the audition with my friend and fortunately, I got selected after qualifying in all three rounds.

How was your journey as an RJ?

My journey as an RJ has been experimental. When I started my career as an RJ, I used to think myself as a square peg in the round hole. As everyone around me was qualified. Some of them had a background of working with movies; some of them were journalism graduates. Technically, only I was not qualified for the job of RJ.

I wasn’t even selected as an RJ in the beginning. I was assigned the work of an outdoor broadcaster. My work was just to go to the field and record stuff. I didn’t have a prime time show when I joined in 2007. But after the ten days of training in Jaipur, I was asked to do morning show. After two weeks they transferred me to the evening show. So from 2007 to 2015, I did evening shows. They selected me for the OB jock, and then promoted me to the prime time show. I have also worked as a regional backup music manager, producer, regional social media manager, sound producer, film reviewer and infotainer.

One day, a flutist came to studio. I was so mesmerized with his music that I didn’t realize he was blind. That’s when I realized the power of radio. The way radio connects with these specially abled people, no other medium can connect. My journey as an RJ has been amazing.

Why did you leave radio?

I didn’t want to leave RJing. I used to plan social media strategies for shows and campaigns of my radio channel as a side duty to RJing. I wanted to learn more about social media marketing. But it is not possible for a prime time RJ to take a leave for longer period. People forget you once you are off the radio for several days. So if you want to keep your fan-base intact, you must maintain consistency.

I wanted personal growth. So I asked for sabbatical. But it was not allowed as per the policy. So I had to leave RJing after 8 years long journey, to move ahead in life.

What are you doing right now?

I am working as an independent social media and brand consultant and creative adviser for entertainment industry. But I am planning to launch a private limited company which will help people with branding and social media promotions. Everything is under production; the company will be launched in a year.

I am so passionate about Gujarati film industry. So I try to help them with promotions. Gujarati film industry is going through the revolutionary phase. I believe, Gujarati cinema will be as mainstream as Hindi cinema is today in Gujarat. So I am trying to give my best to be the part of this revolution. Apart from Gujarati films, I have also been associated with many bollywood films for promotions.

As soon as I left the radio, I organized very first selfie workshop of India. It was a huge success. Now this has become the trend in India. I’m glad that I was the one to bring this in India. We recently did a #ShowcaseUttarayan campaign. This was the first time when a regional festival was promoted on the international level. Many renowned celebrities and mainstream media supported the campaign. I also interviewed Nihal Bitla who is suffering from Progeria. Later he got a chance to meet Aamir Khan.

So I keep doing creative stuff. Next, I am planning to celebrate my birthday with fans.

Interview with RJ Aditi

You seem to be a happy go lucky person. Is there any darker side of your life that you would like to share?

When you are sad and broken, you try to make everyone around you laugh; just so that they don’t go through same feelings that you have gone through. Hence I try to keep smiling no matter what I go through in my personal life.

Everyone goes through this phase in their lives. I went into depression sometimes back due to personal issues. It was very hard time for me. I invested right time into wrong things. When I had to listen to my mind, I followed my heart. And I guess that was a silly mistake at that point of time.

So how did you come out of that phase?

When I was going through that phase, I started spending more time with friends and family. I spent more time on myself. I used to look into lives of underprivileged and those who are not as fortunate as we are. When I see them struggling, I thank god for the life I have been blessed with. My worries are nothing in front of these people who have to struggle every moment of their lives. And that’s what I would suggest people to do. When you are going through tough times in your life, just look into the lives of disabled and underprivileged.

What is failure according to you?

Definition of failure is different for everyone. When I sit and talk with my brother, he reminds me how I am not in a relationship; and how I have been a failure on this part. But then I tell him, I have never given importance to such relationships; and how I always put career ahead of everything. As Einstein has rightly said, you shouldn’t judge a fish by its ability to climb the tree; I believe failure should not be measured on the same parameters for everyone.

Have you been criticized badly for something? What’s your view on criticism?

I generally review movies. Even when I was on the radio, I used to review movies. And when I used to give negative reviews, my radio head used to get calls from distributors to change those reviews. They even offer money to do so. But my radio head has never forced me to change my reviews.

I reviewed five Gujarati films in last one year. I didn’t like three of them. I was criticized for giving negative reviews. Some people even tried to harm my image. But I will keep sharing unbiased reviews as I feel that will really help industry to grow.

Criticism on the whole is a good thing. You can never learn from praises and appreciations. But you can always learn from criticism. So I am always open for criticism.

Which is the most memorable moment of your life?

When board exams of 10th and 12th were going on, I received a call from a father. Generally, parents shut down all media (television, newspapers, etc) to keep their children away from distractions during exams. He said, I have allowed my daughter to listen to you just for an hour. Please encourage her to score above 90 percent in her exams. So I said, she will score more than 90, don’t worry. And we aired that clip on my show. His daughter was very happy. When results were announced, that girl came to our studio with her father directly from the school. She had scored 94 percentile. They both were so happy. This was certainly the most memorable moment of my life.

What message would you like to convey to our readers?

If you really want to achieve something, don’t think twice. Just start working towards it. Whatever you wish to achieve in your life at any point of time, you can achieve it. Age never matters. Your will to achieve your goals and your hard-work is all that counts.

20 Signs That Prove You Are The King of Laziness!

I would have written a long introduction to this post. But well, I am too lazy to do it. Here are 20 signs which prove that you too are a lazy ass!

#01

Maggi is your superman! Khana kaun banaye? When you can get your tummy filler ready in just two minutes (well, three and a half minutes)?

#02

You are mostly seen wearing a Pajama at your home.

#03

You are watching CID on Sony, not because you like it; but because you are too lazy to get the remote to change the channel. Itna kasht kaun uthaye?

#04

You are the actual inventor of the odd even formula. You take bath on alternate days during Winters. And also, Chhutti from the bath on Sundays and holidays.

#05

You hate shopping. You have like three clothes in your cupboard. Well not in the cupboard actually, lying on your bed or Sofa maybe.

#06

Foodpanda, Delfoo, RedJinnie, Faasos, Grofers, Pizza Hut and Dominoes are on your speed dial. And all delivery boys know you personally.

#07

Delivery boys visit your home more than your relatives and your friends. You are the one responsible for half of the revenues of Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal.

#08

You eat like this.

You eat like this - 10 Signs That Prove You Are The King of Laziness!

And maybe you are reading this article in this very position.

#09

You call or Whatsapp your mom to ask the lunch menu, even when she is sitting just 10 feet away from you.

#10

When you are asked to clean your room, you shove everything under the bed. Like a boss.

#11

You would rather wait for the lift to come down from the tenth floor than using the stairs to reach the first floor.

#12

You use your vehicle to meet someone in the next apartment.

#13

“Aaj kare so kaal kar. Kaal kare so parso.” Is your motto in life.

#14

While travelling, the most important thing for you is to find hotel with the most comfortable bed and of course the best room service.

#15

You would rather look like this than going for a haircut and shaving.

Beard - 20 Signs That Prove You Are The King of Laziness

#16

When the plan made by your friends gets cancelled, you do a little Bhangra or Garba in your mind. Lying down and watching TV is always better than stepping out of the house and going to places.

#17

You didn’t realize that I’ve missed point #12.

#18

You didn’t even care to scroll up to see if I am correct or just bluffing. You just smiled and moved on to read the next point.

#19

I’m too lazy to think more points now. Hence I am just wasting all the points. And you are still smiling.

#20

You came here to check if you’re lazy or not, proves that you are actually lazy. And the fact that I wasted last four points, proves that I am the king of laziness.

History behind Valentine’s Day

History behind Valentine's Day

Every year, on a particular day in the month of February, all of a sudden people start feeling romantic! Especially the ones, who’re no-where close to being in a romantic relationship. In fact, Valentine’s day should be renamed as ‘Global Bravery Day for Singles’, looking at the amount of Singles trying to make this day a tad bit ‘normal’ by making it romantic. Guys with all their hopes and horns, try to ‘set’ their so-called-crushes. Lovey-dovey, hearts, roses, chocolates, selfies, red red everywhere- why? Why this day in particular? I would suggest 1st April as the new Valentine’s Day. At least in that case, if the girl rejects you in public, on your face, you can save some pride by saying ‘April Fool’!

So, people do say, ‘This day is celebrated in the memory of St. Valentine’. But who was this guy? And what did he do, to mark this day ‘Globally’ as the day of love? Well, people have their own set of theories to believe in:

Theory 1: Valentine was the shaanapandit

Saint Valentine - History of Valentines DaySome say, that there was a Kejriwal in the times of Romans, who went by the name of Claudius II. Claudius believed that single-men were more productive and useful (True that, look at all those engineers around! Being single and desperate whilst being an engineer is directly proportional to productivity!) for the army. Hence, he banned young men from getting married! Now, there was this gentleman by the name of Valentine, who was against the king and his stupid solutions. So, Valentine would help young couples secretly get married.

When Claudius was informed about this practice, he ordered for Valentine’s death. Thereby, Valentine’s death was marked for the celebration of the day of love.

Theory 2: Valentine was doing jail me khel

Some believe, that Valentine was once sent to prison. There, he had fallen for the jailor’s daughter; and then wrote history by writing world’s first love letter. The letter ended in ‘From Your Valentine’, a connotation, still used by many. Hence, this man’s ‘love’ efforts in the prison have made people mark this day in his memory as the ‘Valentine’s day’!

As per the Catholic records, there were three saints by the name of Valentine. Hence which one was responsible for this lovey-dovey, kuchi-puchi, guys-wallet-emptying, girls pouting, red red-hearts hearts everywhere, smileys, chocolates, wala day, is still not clear.

What people should think about is, we’ve 365 days in the year. And we chose one day, only one day to express love. They say, ‘An entire lifetime might be short, to express love at its full’. And we try doing it in a day. Ironic and Stupid, as the human race always has been!

Government of Gujarat announces a New Policy to Encourage Gujarati Cinema

As director Abhishek Jain mentioned in his column Changing Gujarati Cinema, Gujarati cinema is going through a major change. And today, a very welcoming step has been taken by Government of Gujarat in the same direction. Chief minister Anandiben Patel has announced a new policy to promote and encourage Gujarati cinema. Government wants to promote new age Gujarati films. The policy has been formed with the aim of promoting urban Gujarati films. The policy has been made under the guidance of renowned Gujarati personalities from the entertainment world including Manoj Joshi, Naresh Kanodia, Swapna Waghmare Joshi, Apara Mehta, Abhishek Jain, Gaurang Vyas, Mihir Bhuta and more. Quality of the films is given highest priority while forming this policy. Here is the highlights from the policy.

Highlights from the New Policy for Gujarati Cinema

1. A film screening committee containing 10 experts will be formed to evaluate the films.

2. Films will be given grades on the basis of evaluation of the film screening committee and public reception of the film.

3. Film makers will be provided with the financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh to 50 lakh based on the grades their films receive.

4. Films revolving around women empowerment or based on children will be given additional financial assistance upto 25%.

5. Any Gujarati film which wins international awards will be rewarded with Rs.2 crore to 5 crores.

6. Any film which received Government of India’s ‘Rajat Kamal’ award will be rewarded with Rs.1 crore.

7. Only films shot on 35mm or has 2K Resolution/ higher format will be given financial assistance from the government. Along with the resolution and quality of the film, films should also have sound recording with Digital Surround Sound 5.1 (Dolby Digital/ Dolby SR/ DTS/ DTSE) or upgraded technology.

8. To avail all listed benefits, the film must have minimum running length of 100 minutes.

This new policy by Gujarat government is commendable. The policy will certainly help new directors to venture into Gujarati films. This policy will also open new doors for entrepreneurs planning to venture into entertainment sector. What are your views? Add them in comments below.

Ready to Mingle and Still Single? Here’s Why!

Ready to Mingle and Still Single Here’s Why

While no one openly admits to being desperate to find love, the truth is: we’d all be happier with a little more love in life. We see couples all around us, we see our best friends flirting with people and then dating them, and we wonder why it doesn’t happen to us. While we comfort ourselves with truths like “I’m not searching for my better half because I’m not a half” and “My prince charming got stuck in the way and is too stubborn to ask for directions”, the reality, as we know is a bit different. Here are the top 9 reasons why you’re ready, but still single:

1. You already have a crush who refuses to reciprocates your feelings.

Crush - Ready to Mingle and Still Single Here’s Why!

You’ve tried stalking. Mutual friends. Compliments. Changing yourself. But he/ she doesn’t seem to get the hint or rather ISN’T INTERESTED in you. Or have you not even dropped hints yet? What are you waiting for?

2. Your life is too busy revolving around you.

Career

You might want to date and flirt a little, but ain’t nobody got time for that. A sign for this might be frequent cancelled/ rescheduled dates, refusing people who ask you out, or actually being on a date and wondering a thousand tasks you could’ve completed had you not been on it. You, my friend, are already in a serious committed relationship with your work who won’t let you see anybody else. Prioritise.

3. Fear of differences.

Rooting for you

So you meet him/ her, it seems nice, until you find out things that are different in them- and start freaking out at the thoughts of incompatibility. At this point, you need to take a deep breath and remind yourself that “opposites attract” is a very famous term and his/ her differences can be a wonderful and appealing thing if you just give it a chance.

4. Fear of getting hurt.

Got Hurt

So you’ve had this relationship in your past, where your partner hurt you. Badly. You can no longer trust some stranger with your feelings, and you’ve closed up to guard your emotions. Well, what if the right person is out there and is willing to understand you and help you, but is unable as you won’t take a chance? Chances are what leads to success- so if you’re serious about this, you have to confront the fear of being let down.

5. Too high Expectations.

High Expectations

No man is perfect-well, except David Beckham. And Ryan Gosling. And Zack Efron- well, you get the drift. And in women? Angelina Jolie is perfect. No buts there. But even seemingly perfect people have their flaws- as hard as it might be to believe. So if you have an ideal couple in mind and have set your standards- and if no person is matching up to that, maybe it’s time to reassess your priorities and let go of the few “must-have” s. Even your best friend who has the fairy tale boyfriend faces problems in her relationship. Even your parents aren’t perfect- they fight in their relationship too. It’s time to let go of finding the guy who ticks each and every box on your list.

6. You aren’t looking correctly.

Best Friend

We’ve read about it countless times in romance novels, where the perfect man/woman had been present right beside the protagonist all along, and he/she realises it in the end. Well, if that end was a new beginning, don’t you want your love tale to begin as soon as possible too? Look closer. Maybe your best friend is the one.

7. Now is not the right time.

Waiting for

As clichéd as it may sound, the right person is going to enter your life at the right moment, and not a second earlier, no matter how much you egg the process on. So if nothing else works, be patient, because they’re on their way, and meanwhile, stay away from casual flings and desperation.

8. You need something else.

Best Friend 2

Ask yourself: why are you looking to mingle? Is it because your best friend just got a girlfriend/boyfriend and you do not want to be the third wheel or worse, they want you to find someone so you can go on a double date with them? Is it because you’re simply bored with life and are looking for some entertainment? Or are you truly ready to fall for someone irrespective of the situation?

9. You’re simply too Awesome.

Barney High Five

Nothing works better than this: You have to admit that you are of a superhuman species, and that there is no one as AWESOME as you on the planet. You ROCK, my friend. Be proud of yourself.

Top 10 Offbeat Valentine’s Day Ideas

On the 14th of February, there’re 2 kinds of people: those who have a valentine, and the others who want to have a valentine (honestly, you’ll find a third type who would state that they don’t have ‘time’ for such stuff. Truth is, they don’t have a ‘date’. Simple as that!) If you are the first type, or on the verge of a transition into the first type, Valentine’s day should be a part of cherished memories, in the future. To do that, here are some hatke ideas for your valentine:

1. Candle Light Dinner, Soft Music, Expensive Restaurant, Flowers k alawa kuchh bhi chalega:

Exactly! Go, sit on the road-side and have a pani-puri competition amongst you two. Let the loser do a dare of the winner’s choice. Honestly speaking, no-one loses!

2. Have a No-Lie day:

For some, this might be a day of surprise. For others, who end up having a break-up on this day after reading this, well, better luck next time! Try being more honest in your relationships!

3. Hijack your BFF’s dates:

Take your Valentine alongside, and crash your BFF’s date. Do the most annoying things to ruin theirs, and have fun with yours! And icing on the cake, before the bill comes on the table, Leave!

4. Go for a nice, long drive.

Reach in the middle of no-where and have a nice little cup of tea. The most important thing is- to talk. Have some nice time. You may not remember the soufflé you had at that expensive restaurant, but will definitely remember the nice little conversation you had on the high-way’s side in complete silence of the midnight or the evening.

5. Stay home. Cook. Watch some Shahrukh- Kajol movie.

Staying home lowers the expenses. Cooking together allows you both to spend some time with each other, know each other’s culinary skills and have some fun. A jail hui roti would taste heavenly, if that special someone is laughing at it! And Shahrukh-Kajol, will set the tone correctly for the day to brighten up!

6. Visit an Old Age Home or an orphanage, with your valentine.

So, you love each other. But, there’re some who’re just craving for love. How about, sharing a bite of your Love’s pie with them, maybe just for a day!

7. Teach each other something.

So you know, how to make exact golchappattis and he knows poetry. Great! Exchange your chef’s hat with his poet’s beret for a day! It would actually bring you closer, as you would be able to understand each other’s passion, more passionately!

8. Imitate each other’s behavior for a day.

So, she is very sweet, but diplomatic at the same time and he is very loving, but lazy- exchange your roles for a day! The other one decides to give you marks on your imitation, at the end of the day as you do the same.

9. Enact your first meeting.

Everyone cherishes that first meeting you had. The first smile. The first time you had a nice conversation. First date. When he got on his knees! Recreate them, as you wanted them to ideally be, and record it on a video!

10. Plan for the future.

Are you ready to take the big step? This would be the best day to decide!

The Current Scenario of Higher Education in India

India Higher Education system sucks! (I tried hard to write rocks, but Autocorrect isn’t that dumb after all, it knows the reality!). So much has been said, sung, debated, filmed, ‘discussed’ on 9 bajewaala News Show, that I as resident of this country feel suffocated. But unlike others, I won’t say,”Boss, Iss desh ka kuchh nahi ho sakta!”. I disagree. We’ve to see, that Higher Education System has two dimensions (yes, its 2D, not 3D/ HD): the Customer and the Service Provider.

Customer is the youth. Our youth is so talented! (Reference: Facebook). We’ve creativity flowing in our veins. Cl me wn u rchhom, i m hngry, BYOB (Bring Your Own Books, a common abbreviation for ‘group studies’), and many others. Look at that, Creativity is going beyond the skies. Amidst this, we’ve thousands of students, wanting to become engineers. Thousands of engineers trying to become MBAs. Thousands of MBAs, becoming writers. Wow! It takes people 4 years of Engineering to realize, what they want to do with life, or what their ‘passion’ is. Our youth is ready to debate on Social Media about which istaar is d bst (Star, as in actor, is the best. For the not-so-“educated”!), but when it comes to debating on social issues and their solutions, we go for candle marches. Here’s the concept behind candle marches: you let the God know, “Boss, we’ve screwed up. Yet again. Abhi aap sambhaalo.”With a youth that ‘talented’, I say ”Bahaut kuchh ho sakta hai iss desh ka. Bahaut Kuchh.”. With increasing unemployment, crimes like rape, and corruption, you may know what I mean by ‘bahaut kuchh’.

After this, comes the system. Oh Sir, we’ve a gorgeous education system! You may score 99 percentile in your entrance exam, and yet, may not get an admission. And someone with half your score, or even lower, will be given the same seat on a platter, just because he/she belongs to SC/ST/OBC or some other category. Now you see its beauty? It’s not about how intelligent you’re, because your community should be the deciding factor of whether you get into a college or not. (These reservation criterion decided by the government are pretty baseless. It’s no more about how scarce, weak or backward your community is; instead, what scale of threatening protests can your community have.) So my suggestion would be, instead of studying for the exam, ask the community leaders whether they have enough of laathi and log to protest against the government, and get a reservation for you. If that’s not all, facilities like Management Quota, NRI Quota, Single Child, Double Child, Single Parent, Double Parent, idhar ka quota, udhar ka quota and god knows how many kinds of reservations you may have as a customer to get into an educational institution. So, if you’ve enough of Money/ Approach/ Community’s reservation capabilities, and less or no brains, life will still be a cake walk for you. What a beautiful system!

If you’re really really talented, and really really lucky, you may get an admission as well as a scholarship. Getting scholarships for quality students, ironically, are available in India. Admissions in quality institutions on the other hand, scarce.

Maximum of our talent pool is shifting to the developed economies. Every educational institution, irrespective of its quality of education or scale of reach or even region, is in dire need of quality teaching professionals. The courses are getting obsolete, day by day. Global rankings of our universities are not even worth to look at. Only IIT-D and IIT-B made it, that too in the lateral part. If you’re a service provider in this system, please buckle up and be honest to your profession. And if you’re a customer, well, best of luck.

Here’s why I stopped sharing my political views on Social Media!

Here's why I stopped sharing my political views on Social Media!

Putting your opinion forward is believed to be a good thing. And in deed it is. You are only valued in the society if you have a strong opinion. Be it negative or positive. You’ve got to have an opinion. But in the age of social media, sharing your opinion on a topic like politics will make your life only a mess, especially in a country like India, where everyone gets offended so easily.

I stopped sharing my views on politics couple of months ago as soon as realized that it had started spoiling my life. You share something on politics and those who contradict your views will reply to your post. And you will try to keep the conversation decent, but it will get dirty. You thought you would just post your view and move on with your work. But the conversation on your post will not stop. It will go on and on and on. There are several reasons why I stopped putting forward my political views. Listing few of them.

1. Waste of time

As I said earlier, it doesn’t stop just at posting your views. You’ve got to reply to those who contradicts your views. And the conversation will keep going until you give up or take down the post. All this will just waste your time.

2. Spoils your relations

Accept it. Discussions on politics over social media has caused you loss of few good people. We cannot keep discussions healthy. We end up fighting with each other over politics. And which ultimately causes loss of social media friends. It definitely affects our relations.

3. Spreads Hatred

You cannot criticize any politician or political party on social media. Or else those who support them will come forward with hate comments. Putting up negative views on politics will only bring hatred.

4. Harms your image

Ugly social media fights over political debates only harms your image. Even if you are supporting the right person or act, those discussions never remain decent. It will ultimately harm your image on social media.

5. Increases Negativity

Believe it or not! Posting political views very frequently increases negativity in your life. You will be constantly criticized. You will have to be prepared all the time to defend your views. I have also seen people threatening people, just because their views didn’t match with them.

So, stay out of all the negativity. Stop posting your political views every now and then; and make your life positive. Add your views in comments down below.

A Guide to Singles on How to Spend Valentines Day

Not everyone has a Valentine on February 14th, and not everyone wishes to have one. For the singles, the day might be a little awkward (if you have to face proposals you know you would say no to), scary (if your friends are hell bent on finding you that “special one” today), annoying (courtesy all those red, balloons, not able to eat outside because of couples all around doing kuchikoo, etc.), or plain boring. But who says a single can’t enjoy this holiday alone? Here are some fresh ideas on how to make your day special too, courtesy you:

1. Movie Time!!

How long have you been planning to watch that silly romcom, or that scary flick but have been postponing it because of various reasons? Well this Valentine’s, as you are snug in your bed (no waking up early to arrange surprises for someone), get that 8 DVD Harry Potter Marathon Pack. Or finish a season of your favourite TV series. And the best part- you get to eat all the popcorn <3

2. Long-lost bestie

We all have a friend we’ve been planning to meet for a long time but haven’t been able to- well, give them a call and if they aren’t busy, go spend the entire day with them!

3. Shopping

This one’s not just for girls- guys, treat yourself to shopping for new video games or whatever you shop- without any unnecessary opinions from your mom or girlfriend (not mom. Moms rock.)

4. Culinary artiste

Make that yummy dish and surprise your friends and Family-Don a chef’s hat this Valentine’s and win some hearts and compliments for that delicious cooking.

5. Musical memories

A single friend of mine answered a simple question on radio and ended up winning passes to a concert she had been wanting to go to for a long time… not only that, she MET the artists and had a wonderful time with her friends. So record a song, go to a place that does karaoke, go to a concert, or even end up DOING a concert with your family cheering you on at your home. When words fail, music speaks

6. Go out.

No seriously. Just because you’re single and the outside world is swamped with couples that day, it isn’t a reason for you to be cooped in. I’ve always found that when you go out, good things happen to you. Who knows, you might find someone who is single and brave enough to venture too (and cute we hope)?

7. Sleeeep.

A very popular option. To the smart-but-overworked people who can stay in, do not miss this opportunity to catch up on alarm-free sleep- it is pure bliss.

And lastly, while doing all these things, do not forget to fall in love- with yourself!

Twitter may Change its Algorithm and Tweeple are Going Mad

We love Twitter cause we see tweets in real time. It doesn’t matter which tweet received maximum retweets 10 hours ago… cause it will not appear on our timeline! Basically it is NOT Facebook.

According to recent online gossip, twitter may change their algorithm and our timeline may be filled with popular tweets!

Twitter has not confirmed or denied the news as yet. But people on twitter are going mad. Here are a few reactions: #RIPTwitter

Sonal Rochani's Journey from a Crime Reporter to the Changemaker!

Despite of being born in an orthodox Sindhi family, what she has done in her life and what she is doing right now will leave you wondering. When you meet certain people in life, you realize that you are doing nothing in life. She is one of those rare people. Certain part of her story gave me goosebumps and her story indeed inspired me. From being a crime reporter to working for women empowerment in tribal areas, Sonal Rochani (Founder, Shakti Foundation) shares bits from her journey with BuddyBits. Have a look at our conversation with Sonal Rochani.

How was your journey in earlier life?

I was a shy kid, a book worm and a nerd! Had only few friends. Was a scholar until college time. Reading and writing were my only hobbies. (Thankfully, there were no gadgets and social networking sites back then!) After graduation, my dad wanted me to become a professor in college. In year 2004, after graduation (B.A. with English), I went to university to get prospectus and found P.G. diploma (mass communication), to be suitable for me. Without thinking much, I took admission in the same.

Mass communication changed my life. I developed interest in mass media. I was passionate for writing already, but now meeting various people started exciting me. I started liking meeting different people, with different walks of life, from different cultures and for different purposes! After that course, I did a six month internship in Divya Bhaskar. I was given a desk job (like proof reading, etc.). I wasn’t meant for that. I wanted to do the field work. So I joined Samna as a crime reporter. I used to go to Civil hospital and police stations to cover various crime stories and news. This was the turning point of my life. I saw deaths, crimes, criminals and victims very closely. Women were the victims of majority of crimes. Rape, dowry, female infanticide, molestation and end number of crimes were being committed on women.

Then I joined, Gujarat Mitra, one of the oldest newspapers of India as a sub-editor. I learned a lot from senior journalists like Bhagvati Kumar Sharma, Narendra Joshi and more. After three years, I joined My FM as an executive producer. I got an opportunity to lead the team very first time there. I leaned a lot. Then I joined TV9 , but it didn’t work out for me. So I came back and joined Franchise Mart as a media manager for a while.

My last corporate job was with Dr. Joy Shah. I stayed in Nashik for some time. Here again I saw extreme poverty and illiteracy in the tribal women.

So what made you turn towards social entrepreneurship?

One terrifying incident, while I was working for Samna turned me towards social entrepreneurship. One day, I was reporting at Civil Hospital, and a pregnant lady came running towards us. She was terrified. Her clothes and her body were soaked in kerosene. Her in laws tried to burn her alive just because they found out that she was growing a baby girl inside her! I was terrified. That’s when the seed to serve the women and underprivileged was planted inside me.

Tell us something about your journey as a Social Entrepreneur.

I used to work for Government of Gujarat as a free lancer along with my corporate job. In 2010, I translated some Government documents and sent them to Central government. At that time came to know about various government schemes for tribal and marginalized communities. My uncle Shri A. M. Khatri was additional collector at that time and he encouraged me to work in tribal areas and work for the upliftment of the tribal women.

So, in August 2011, “Shakti Foundation” came into existence. For one year I roamed in entire south Gujarat with government staff and tried to understand the actual condition of tribal women. I stared doing awareness campaigns, identifying the underprivileged women and started working for their skill development. Kotwadiya and Hadpari are the most primitive of the tribal community. I started working in the interior most areas of Surat and Tapi district.

Here, illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, indebtedness, malnutrition, early marriages, alcoholism, gender discrimination are rampant! Poverty resulting from unemployment, lack of proper access to a sustainable means of livelihood throughout the year and constant look out for alternative livelihood make these women vulnerable to forces that undermine their right to life.

Solution to address above problems is to provide them with a source of sustainable livelihood income along with the awareness and education. With Shakti Foundation I started toiling hard for this.

You know, despite increasing urbanization, extreme poverty continues to be a rural phenomenon. Of the world’s 1.2 billion extremely poor people, 75% live in rural areas and are mostly dependent on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related activities for their survival. In India, most people in rural areas do not even earn 100 rupees a day! Now try to imagine their life! Specially women. Their husbands don’t earn and they have 2 to 3 kids to raise solely!

Sonal Rochani Shakti Foundation

After the skill development of tribal women and engaging them in various livelihood activities I asked them to form self help groups. Opened their bank accounts and asked them to save some money. Again that money was invested in starting some small enterprises. Thus, they become RURAL ENTREPRENEURS!

What are you doing right now?

Right now I am focusing on the health, hygiene, nutrition and education of tribal women and their kids. Actually, we (urban citizens) have many resources and these tribal people don’t have much resources. So for them, survival is very difficult. When government of India is moving towards Smart Cities, I am trying to make Villages Smart; where people are 100% self reliant, educated and are considered equal in the society. For that, we, urban people will have to work. How can we live happily when our fellow citizens are not happy?

How would you describe your experience working for rural women empowerment?

I faced so many challenges in this development process, but what I have earned is simply priceless. I have earned a whole lot of experience, well wishes and blessings of tribal women. That is why I say, if the blessings I have earned get credited into my bank account, one day I will also get featured in the Forbes magazine.

Two years back, I survived from Acute Pancreatitis, a disease with very high mortality rate. All thanks to the tribal women who prayed for me!

What message would you like to convey to our readers?

Keep going no matter what happens; your dreams must not die! If you believe in something and don’t do something about it then you are dishonest to yourself! I would request everyone to come forward, take responsibility and try to make a difference. Let’s try to bridge the gap between city and rural parts. Even your smallest contribution towards rural empowerment will get counted! Let’s together work towards building a great nation.

What do you think about BuddyBits?

I have seen BuddyBits growing into one of the finest info-entertainment websites. It has helped a lot of people making reading a regular habit! Best wishes to entire team.
